From the recording When the Levee Breaks

Written by Memphis Minnie almost 100 years ago in response to the Mississippi floods in 1927 then covered by Led Zeppelin in 1971 with numerous samples and re-releases since. The song continues to resonate more and more as we extract unsustainable energy from our world.
Today floods are regular seasonal elements of the Australian landscape and in the last 6 months floods have spread further south into Victoria and now SA – The band initially responded to Lismore floods in February this year before performing for the Glenmaggie Blues & Roots Festival adding this piece as a feature in our set which continues to resonate with our fans, we see it a priority as our first release.
Thank you Maria Tsolakidis for her ongoing support, John Durr for his “watchful eye and direction” Elle Mantzaris and all the family at MBAS for their support, Baz and all from Hume Blues Club, Salty and the Blow Out bros from Stingos, Andrea Marr from Heaven above, my Blues Colleagues and mentors and teachers, the Blues Women and Sisters, industry - in particular, Lockie and John and George Lane for supporting our video shoot. A special mention to my hero who encourages me and teaches me how to get up, and move forward, the most humble honest example of a shining star I look up to, Geoff Achison. But most importantly, whom without, I would not go on, our compass and beacons, our fans who endorse us. Thank you to all the people directlty credited here - you have worked towards this project and given it your all, whom I am in awe of. And finally, my new friends and new family, I would need to publish a book to include you. My pillars of strength, thank you.

Lyrics

If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
And the water gonnna come in and we'll have no place to stay

Well all last night I sat on the levee and moan
Well all last night I sat on the levee and moan
Thinkin' 'bout my baby and my happy home

If it keeps on rainin' levee's goin' to break
If it keeps on rainin' levee's goin' to break
And all these people will have no place to stay

Now look here mama what am I to do?
Now look here mama what am I, I to do?
I ain't got nobody to tell my troubles to

I worked on the levee, mama, both night and day
I worked on the levee, mama, both night and day
I ain't got nobody to keep the water away

Oh cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do no good
Oh cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do no good
Whenever the levee breaks momma, you got to lose

I worked on the levee, mama, both night and day
I worked on the levee, mama, both night and day
I worked so hard to keep the water away
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
And the water gonnna come in and we'll have no place to stay
