“ONE WOMAN ONE LOVE” – KALIOPI & THE BLUES MESSENGERS
One Woman One Love” is a vibrant, upbeat shuffle driven by crisp drums, with Greg Rowan’s buoyant hi-hats, Paul Leeder’s walking bass, and Brendon Price’s syncopated piano locking the groove in place. The song opens with a commanding, orchestrated call-and-response band line before Kaliopi’s voice hollers the refrain—“one woman, one love”—setting the tone with authority and soul. From there, the track unfolds through lively exchanges between her guitar and vocals and Wayne Albury’s expressive saxophone, all carried on John Drew’s warm Hammond bed that weaves the entire piece together.
Lyrically, the song is a confessional blues meditation on devotion as salvation, where “one woman, one love” is not an easy promise, but a remedy the singer both longs for and fears. The repeated phrases form a hypnotic, chant-like structure that mirrors emotional fixation and inner struggle.
After the second verse, the orchestrated intro returns and develops over the shuffle as Kaliopi launches into a sparse, biting guitar solo for one chorus while Albury’s sax responses grow in prominence. The blues transforms as the antagonist in the 3rd verse before Wayne wails into a featured solo over 2 choruses that draws the listener in, smiling through the tension of the second chorus as the song wrestles with love as freedom versus love as captivity, devotion as both promise and demand. By the time the question lingers—what if the thing that can save me is also the thing that asks the most of me?—the listener is left answered, and ultimately redeemed, by One Woman One Love.

“How The Caged Bird Sings is a soulful blues journey of resilience and rebirth, where Kaliopi’s voice and guitar transform Maya Angelou’s inspiration into powerful, liberating emotion.” DULAXI Music Entertainment LA USA
"Her voice is tender and piercingly emotional, each word ringing with emotion and meaning. As the track progresses, her narration takes different tones of sombre reflection and remembrance for the life & lessons learned.
Musically, it’s a sublime piece of blues music. The steady arrangements hold the tempo and rhythm so well, while the organ and Kaliopi’s lead guitar is downright spellbinding". Good Music Radar Netherlands.
“It’s a song that shakes the dust off your spirit and reminds you that even in confinement, a voice can still rise” Apricot Magazine NY USA
“What emerges is a laid-back indie rock track that will draw you into a pleasant groove within seconds. I was equally captivated by the precise guitar riffs, which impress with their elegant drive and unmistakable vintage distortion sound". NEWINDIERADAR Germany.
Lyrics
ONE WOMAN ONE LOVE ©Kaliopi
One woman, one love, what you promise me
One woman, one love , is what you promise me
When you fill my cup, Help me be free
One woman, one love, is all you crave,
One woman, one love, is all you crave,
But this heart of mine, darlin', such a troubled slave.
Oh, one woman, one love, with you all night long,
Oh, one woman, one love, with you all night long,
But the blues got my tongue, strangling this song.
One woman, one love, you want from me,
One woman, one love, you want from me,
When the blues keep on knockin', wanna rock me free
One woman, one love, is the only remedy.
One woman, one love, is the only remedy
You fill up my cup, quench the hurt away
